Player Bio

Matt McGahan joins the St.George Queensland Reds squad in 2019 after a distinguished playing career around the world.

Matt comes to Ballymore after two seasons playing in Japan’s Top League with Yamaha Jubilo. Between 2015 and 2016 he played 12 Super Rugby matches with the Auckland Blues after returning to New Zealand following a rugby league stint with the Melbourne Storm U20s competition.

He comes to the Reds with a good pedigree – son of 32-Test former New Zealand Kiwis captain, Eastern Suburbs Roosters captain-coach, plus 1987 Rugby League Golden Boot winner, Hugh McGahan.

Despite growing up in Auckland and representing New Zealand at Schoolboys level, Matt is Australian qualified having been born in Sydney.
