Bond University Queensland Country side named for clash against Greater Sydney Rams

Four changes have been made to the Bond University Queensland Country starting XV ahead of their clash against the Greater Sydney Rams at TG Milner Field this Saturday, 14 October, in Round 7 of the National Rugby Championship.

In the starting side, both Alex Casey and Chris Feauai-Sautia return to the match-day 23, at hooker and outside centre respectively, while Izaia Perese shifts to the wing in place of Eto Nabuli, who is unavailable for this weekend’s match due to a family bereavement.

Souths utility back Teti Tela will also receive his first start of the 2017 season at fullback, with Paddy James shifting to the reserves.

St.George Queensland Reds prop James Slipper will make his return to Rugby after seven months on the sideline with a torn achilles, having been named in the reserves, providing frontrow cover alongside Richie Asiata and Fred Burke.

Former Toowoomba junior Phil Potgieter is also in-line for his first NRC cap of 2017, while fellow University of Queensland teammate Jock Campbell and Brothers’ backrower Ted Postal also return to the reserves bench.

Queensland Country assistant coach Paul Carozza said: “While we’ve made some changes to the side this week, we’ve been able to add some experience to the match day 23.

“Each player who’ve we’ve introduced into the starting XV has plenty of previous NRC experience, and to welcome Slipper back onto the bench is a bonus for us.

“Slipper has worked hard since his injury to ensure his return to play via the NRC and he’s added some extra size to his frame. He’s excited to get back on the field.

“While we secured the win last week against NSW Country, we weren’t happy with our second half performance and we’re aiming to produce a more a consistent 80-minute game this weekend.

“The Rams will be a good challenge for us. They’ve got a number of experienced players within their side and it’s another chance for our squad to test themselves.”

Round 7 of the NRC also marks Cancer Awareness Round across the NRC, with Queensland Country supporting the Leaukemia Foundation, alongside fellow Queensland NRC side Brisbane City.

All matches will this weekend be played with specially coloured blue Rugby Balls as part of the promotion of Cancer Awareness Round.
