Crosby Sevens kicks off this weekend

Brothers Rugby Union will host the fifth instalment of the annual Crosby Sevens competition on Saturday, showcasing some of the best grassroots Rugby Sevens talent in Queensland at Albion’s Crosby Park.

The one day tournament will have an action-packed schedule with exiting Sevens action from 9:00am into the early evening.

Brothers CEO Matt Kaye said: “The Crosby Sevens events have been great days in previous years, it’s a good format having it as a one day tournament.

“The teams will play pool games in the morning and finals under lights in the early evening.

“I’d like to see everyone come down on Saturday, it’s a brilliant day and we have a lot of great teams playing some exciting Rugby.”

The competition will see teams from most of the major Brisbane clubs, Caloundra Lighthouses and the exciting inclusion of two Brisbane Fijian teams.

“The Brisbane Fijian teams won the tournament last year and they play an exciting brand of Rugby, that everyone likes to watch,” Kaye said.

Before the Crosby Sevens started five years ago, Brisbane didn’t previously have a club Rugby Sevens tournament.

“We want to continue to provide a pathway for Sevens in Brisbane to grow, previously we didn’t have a sevens comp in Brisbane so we created the Crosby Sevens so our players didn’t have to travel around the place to play.”

Entry at the game will be $5, with the proceeds from the gate going to Brothers Junior Sevens representative players.
